Mayors' Ride Bios - Kevin Kelly
1. Which Relay link do you want to ride?
Leg 3: Santa Barbara 6/3 to San Luis Obispo 6/4 to Monterey 6/7 --
266 miles (3 mayors)
2. How you found us
Surfing the web for more info on recumbents. I was at
http://www.bikeroute.com/Recumbents/ and saw your advert.
3. Why you want to do
this ride
For the glory and prestige; for a free rowbike. But serouosly, I would
like to try a row bike as previous sports injuries have
effected my knees. Also I need to feel bugs in my teeth.
4. Tell us about your touring experience-
if
little or none, indicate
many miles have you ridden over the last year:
My touring experience is from the late 1970's and early 1980's. Rode
from San Francisco to Eureka and back several times.
Over 50 trips from Davis, Ca. To Chico, Ca. What can I say, I was
poor and in college, she was in college, and we were in love.
5. Tell us about your bike
Which one?
Ryan Vanguard Recumbent - Long wheel Base. Best long distance bike on
the planet IMO. Terrible
in city situations - stop and go, automobile/cellphone idiots etc.
Nishiki 7005 mountain bike has full suspension and is smooth to ride.
But the shocks suck up a
little of the effort one uses trying to move it.
Bob Jackson road bike. Nice and very very stiff.
Trek MTP beater. Gets me to work on time.
6. Describe your training
regimen
Basically I commute 15 miles per day by bike, ride on the weekends,
swim 1 mile a day. Stand on my head, sail and
play the trombone (very poorly I might add)
7. How are you making time for this
I work, earn vacation & personal Holidays, and generally piss
off the admin types by not taking time off, so I build up to a figure
that
requires the State Department of Personnel Administration to become
involved. So they say I have to take several weeks off this
year. Oh, I also earn 2 Annual leave/mont and I don't use that either.
8. What are your fears about doing this ride
Small thermonuclear devices. That and drivers with cell phones.
9. Do you have any special skills that you feel
would benefit the Mayors' Ride?
Award winning cook. Supurb whitewater guide (Class 5). Expert in
TCP/IP, veteran in love and outlaw in Peru. That kind of stuff.
10. If you are involved with other non-profit
organizations, please tell us about them
Nope, none. At least that's what they tell me to say.
11. Anything else you'd like to share with us?
The care and feeding of myself; never seem to make a profit. I am
occasionally involved with a non-profit group in San Francisco. Taking
inner-city kids sailing.

 | Greenway design and construction firms that specialize in bicycle trails will emerge as the Greenway program unfolds. Since some parts of the Greenway will be tastefully designed in a linear, park-like setting, service crews will maintain the landscaping, signage, rest areas and information kiosks that will border these important arterials. |
