Mayors' Ride Bios - Jeff Longtin
(Pictured at right with St Paul Mayor Randy Kelly)
1. Which Relay link do you want to ride?
St.Paul, MN to Madison WI
2. How you found us
I don't recall exactly but suspect I bumped into the website many
years ago when
seeking information about recumbent bicycles, dealers, and
bicycling in general.
Additionally, I believe Martin Krieg was a regular contributor to the hpv
mailing lists
back then and we may have traded e.mails.
3. Why you want to do this ride
I think it is paramount in the effort to promote safe cycling and
alternative
means of transportation to draw attention to the cause and walk(or
bike!) the talk!
4. Your touring experience
Other than biking for recreation and commuting, up until last
year...none. However,
my son and I did RAGBRAI last year and logged 600+ during the
course of the week and
had a great time. I plan to take in at least one extended tour every
season.
5. Tell us about your bike
Recumbents only! My primary rides last season were a Cycle
Genius and an EasyRacers'
Tour Easy. My winter ride this year was an EZ-3 trike and since I've
sold the Tour Easy,
my main ride is, again, my Cycle Genius with a BicycleR Evolution
trailer.
6. Describe your training regimen
Ride to work, work to eat, eat to ride, and sleep once in awhile! No
training regimen
to date but simply an effort to bike at every available opportunity
instead driving.
7. How many miles do your ride a year
I haven't kept track for many years but plan to do so this year.
8. Are you car free or Interested
Katie Alvord ("Divorce Your Car") coined the term Car-Lite and I
subscribe to this
as much as possible. With a large family and a tremendous
amount of things to do
and places to be, car-free would be difficult at this point. I bike
when I can and
when I can't I reluctantly take the "cage".
9. How are you making time for this
Time isn't an issue. This will be an opportunity to get away for a
few days and
enjoy life on the road. Really, this will be a much-anticipated
vacation!
10. How many miles do you plan to ride in 2002
Tons!
11. What are your fears about doing this ride
My only concern in taking on a long, un-supported trek is the
possibility of
encountering non-friendly roads i.e. no-shouldered highways and
perhaps the
chance of an injury out in the middle of nowhere.
12. Do you have any special skills
Yes, but that's classified information!
13. Do you have any helpful friends for us
Sorry, none of my friends seem to be very helpful :)
14. Affiliated bike club eMails
None
15. What other activities do you do
Full time dad duties keep me pretty busy all the time!
16. Your age
40
17. Your occupation
Manager for a small manufacturing facility. Owner/operator of Cyclogical Recumbent Bicycles
a recumbent-only bike shop, cyclogical recumbent bicycles.
