Which Relay link do you want to ride?

Washington, DC to Pittsburgh

How you found us :

This event was described in the newsletter of the Bike Club of
Philadelphia( BCP) of which I am a member.

Why you want to do this ride:

To support the Greenway, for the fun of it, and as a part of my
ongoing training regimen.

Your touring experience:

I restarted my adult bicycle riding in 1996 with the 250mile, 3day, Philadelphia to DC AIDs Ride. Since then I have done numerous supported and unsupported mufti-day rides as well as single day club and charity rides. Last year, for example, I participated in a 6 day, 400 mile unsupported ride around the Outer Banks of North Carolina with 11 friends from 2 local bike clubs. This year, 7 women from that group are planning an unsupported 3 week tour in Ireland. I can provide many more examples , if needed.

Tell us about your bike

I have two, a Cannondale, WSD, Sport Touring, R800c and a TREK Hybrid, 520.

Describe your training regimen:

During riding season, I do 4 rides with 2 different bike clubs during the mid-week, Tues, Wed, Thurs and Friday. Rides range from 25 miles to 50 miles and cover varied terrain. Speed , hill and endurance training. Additionally, at least 3 weekends a month, I will do a 50 plus mile ride and generally do one more ride a week, usually averaging 5 to 6 days riding per week. I do weight training at the gym 3 times a week during riding season and add cardio during the winter.I also xc ski during the winter, this year I have been able to go on 3 week- long ski trips and multiple one or two day ski outings. I also use a stationary trainer at home and go to spinning classes during the winter at the gym.

How many miles do your ride a year:

It varies, but around 3000-5000.

How are you making time for this:

I'm retired, so the time is not a problem.

How many miles do you plan to ride in 2003:

Around 5000.

What are your fears about doing this ride:

It's fairly early in the season and the weather this winter has not permitted much outdoor biking so I am somewhat concerned about hills, but I'll make that a particular focus in training.

Do you have any special skills:

I can be a great motivator, but no mechanical or other bike specific skills.

Do you have any helpful friends for us:

Not at this time as I haven't discussed this ride with others in detail yet. Maybe later.

What other activities do you do:

xc skiing,kayaking,reading

Your age- 57

You occupation:

Retired from Cigna Corporation. I was a Manager/Director in the Property/Casualty company
